The theme I have chosen as a metaphor for my learning journey is "Seeing the World and Beyond." The images used represent the views of physical places on earth, both natural and man-made. In my choice of images, I mainly chose a visual that conveyed the main idea of the page but kept within the metaphor of "seeing the world." My intent was to demonstrate the different perspectives possible while traveling around the planet and to help the viewer get a sense of the feelings that may be associated with both place and time. Though "seeing the world" is a metaphor akin to exploring the educational landscape in my current journey, the idea of “going beyond” is about creating a vision of how distance learning can be designed to take all of us past the places we can easily know and see, launching us into learning environments that extend beyond our wildest imaginations.
As with many travel adventures, there is often an expected destination, but the experiences that will be garnered along the way are rarely predetermined. Often the most majestic moments occur when deep connections are made with people or new places seen for the first time. In this same way, I am beginning my journey, exploring the world of learning beyond the familiar, expecting to end up at a place that for me, defines more clearly how distance learning can be designed to create meaningful personalized learning spaces that engage students to become strong critical thinkers while finding their unique areas of strength, in ways that stimulates creativity and passion.
" Tell me and I'll forget, Teach me and I will remember, Involve me and I will LEARN ."
Benjamin Franklin
