Social Media Prezi
OLTD Program Learning Outcome:
Become familiar with common terms, definitions and elements related to online environments.
Demonstrate basic competency with design and implementation within a variety of online learning environment & tools.
Develop and design intentional learning activities suitable for the appropriate environment and learner.
Develop skills to optimize learning experiences through personalization.
Assignment Summary and Reflection:
Working on this Prezi with my friend and colleague Nadine Cahan, reminded me how important it is for teachers to have opportunities for collaboration. Given the reduced professional development budgets over the last two decades, it seems that teachers often find themselves alone when figuring out how to implement new curriculum or integrate new technology. Having a person to talk to over the phone, and face to face, for sure enabled me to better understand FIPPA more completely, especially in regards to the implications when using Social Media in educational contexts. I am not so sure I would have managed the associated stress that surfaced once the legal implications of FIPPA was revealed to me if I was addressing this material more on my own.
Learning more about privacy protection definitely has helped me to plan and prepare for my continued use of technology in my teaching practice. It is my hope that our Prezi will be able to provide a platform for teachers to investigation how they might go about becoming more FIPPA compliant, with as little stress as possible!

FIPPA Compliance Form
Learning Management System Consent Form Example
OLTD Program Learning Outcome:
Create assessment and evaluation methods/tools most suitable to the strengths and challenges of online environments.
Demonstrate basic competency with design and implementation within a variety of online learning environment & tools.
Develop skills to optimize learning experiences through personalization.
Assignment Summary and Reflection:
Learning more about FIPPA, I realized that my attempt to use technology to increase access to course content for my students, was lacking the proper consent. I have always believed that it is my duty to help my students understand issues of “digital citizenship” and “safe use” of technology, so informing them about privacy of information is something I have done for a long time. More recently though, I began using CANVAS, a Learning Management System that allows my students to attend to the assigned work on, or offline. Despite having communicated my program structure with my students and their parents (or guardians), I now realize that I have to acquire formal consent. Using one of the template my school district provided, I was able to create a working document that I used to come closer to full FIPPA compliance.
