509 Emergent Environments and Technologies
Students will explore educationally significant emerging technologies and will examine aspects of change in education. Students will be provided opportunities to develop frameworks for handling technology selection and implementation, absorption of new pedagogies, sustainable change, and emerging challenges in education. Using a Gamified Learning Environment, students will select topics to investigate applications, benefits and challenges inherent in specific emerging technology and pedagogy deployment.

Assignment Summary and Reflection:
This is what I would consider a culminating activity for much of my thinking during this course though it was certainly an extension of the many years I have spent thinking about how to successfully re-vision how we "do school!"
I'm not sure I would have been able to synthesize the information as I did, had I NOT been given the opportunity to work in a gamified learning environment. Somewhat paradoxically, the emerging pedagogy of gamification, allowed me the latitude to hone in on the work done in Sustainable Change, which ultimately lead me to question the sustainability of the new emerging pedagogies in education. Though I am highly motivated to continue to creatively innovate in the area of public education, spending time to think more deeply about what is sustainable when it comes to innovation, is a critical piece in planning that I think is far too often over-looked.

Assignment Summary and Reflection:
Because I was given the opportunity to follow my interest completely, I went into a depth and breadth of learning that surpassed much of what I have done in other courses. I spent some time contemplating web design but not nearly enough time acting on my contemplations. I agree with many of the cohort who said that they would welcome a whole course on web design yet realize that even a concentrated effort on this topic for 6 weeks would likely still not be enough.
Regardless, I started to work toward minimizing the amount of text on any one page and think that in the next two courses, I will move to a gallery style of presentation. In this gallery style, text is revealed only after a person decides which image in a gallery matches the topic they want to investigate further.
